Every February the grid resets. One star takes the center, eight others fly to fixed positions, and the arrangement holds until the next Start of Spring. In 2027 the center goes to Nine Purple and the wealth star lands in the southeast, which comes around once every nine years.

Where the numbers come from
This part is arithmetic, not interpretation. Two people running the same steps get the same grid, which means you can check any chart you find against it.
- Add the digits of the year. 2 + 0 + 2 + 7 = 11.
- Reduce to a single digit. 1 + 1 = 2.
- Subtract from 11. 11 - 2 = 9. That is the star that takes the center. If the result is 10, it becomes 1.
- Fly the rest outward. The remaining stars descend in order along the Lo Shu path, which runs center, northwest, west, northeast, south, north, southwest, east, southeast.

Three markers that move with the year
The stars are only half of the annual picture. Three older markers follow the year's earthly branch, and 2027 is a 未 (wèi) year, the Goat. None of them is a star, and all three come with the same instruction: leave that sector alone.

Reading it honestly
2027 falls inside Period 9, the twenty-year cycle that runs from 2024 to 2043, and the star that rules that period is also Nine Purple. So the center carries the period star and the annual star at once. Practitioners describe that as a double Nine in the middle, and it is why the year's chart is treated as unusually loud at the center.
The complication is Eight White. In Period 8 it was the reigning wealth star, and now it is a guest in someone else's period. Some practitioners in this lineage give more weight to the center's Nine Purple and to One White in the northwest than to the Eight White in the southeast, on the argument that a star past its reign loses force. Others keep Eight White as the money sector because it governs wealth already earned and settled, which does not expire with a period. Both readings are live. This page keeps Eight White as the primary money sector, and tells you the disagreement exists rather than picking a side quietly.
One thing is not a matter of interpretation. A chart for 2027 that does not put Five Yellow in the north and Eight White in the southeast was built from a different year, and several English pages currently circulating do exactly that.
